Volunteer Opportunities

BRWA receives EPA award. Board Member -- become part of a well-respected group, working with other partners in the watershed to educate and implement actions that will improve the water quality of our streams and rivers.

WQM testing Water Quality Monitor -- learn and apply techniques for monitoring stream and river water quality, including temperature, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, turbidity, and habitat assessment. Training takes place in March of each year, and water monitoring is done once a month from April through November.

Stream Teams -- get out and walk along a section of the Blackstone River or one of it's tributaries noting the flora and fauna, the terrain, and any potential impacts to the water quality.

CleanupCleanups -- join with others in ridding a section of the Blackstone River of trash, either walking on shore or paddling in a canoe.

Water Chestnut Cleanup Invasive Species -- work in preventing an invasive, non-native species of water chestnut and the purple loosestrife from taking over areas shallow areas. If allowed to grow, these plants can make boating and fishing impossible in shallow water areas and they can permanently alter vital wildlife habitats.

Publicist -- write interesting articles for the quarterly newsletter, act as liason to local newspapers in the Blackstone Valley, write press releases to promote the organization.

Canoe Race Canoe/Kayak Race -- bring your ideas and enthusiasm to the Canoe Race Committee. The committee meets from January to June planning the annual canoe and kayak race. New ideas are welcomed.

Town Conservation Commission Liason -- attend the ConCom meeting in your town.
