Access to the Blackstone RiverThe BRWA,in partnership under a cooperative agreement with the John H. Chaffee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission was instrumental in the design, planning and construction of several river access sites along the Blackstone River All of these areas have served as unofficial boat launch sites for years. Constant use has resulted in severe erosion at some of the sites and riverbanks need to be stabilized to prevent further damage. This project will not only ensure permanent access by boaters and fishermen, but also will enhance public safety and lessen the environmental impacts to these areas. Other public access areas for canoes and other small recreational boats being developed along the Blackstone River in Massachusetts include: Plumber’s Landing in Northbridge, the Millville Lock in Millville, Rice City Pond Dam in Uxbridge. Uxbridge Sites: Routes 16 and 122The most recent completion of river access sites are in Uxbridge at the Rte. 122 bridge on the Blackstone River and on Rte. 16 across from Stanley Woolen Mills.
Blackstone GorgeMassachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, in conjuction with the John H. Chaffee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission and the BRWA, completed a major renovation of the Blackstone Gorge in 2008. The Gorge is part of the Blackstone River and Canal State Park. This is the last remaining "wild" section of the Blackstone River. Renovations include a small boat access, view area, landscaping, and handicap access.
